A Place to Live. A Path to Thrive.

Inuka builds community-owned, energy-efficient, affordable homes to create diverse communities where people and families can stand tall, grow, and thrive together.

Inuka (Swahili) — to rise; to uplift

What We’re Building

Affordable Housing

Community-owned homes designed for low- to moderate-income households, with affordability and long-term stability at the core.

Accessible, Sustainable Design

Every unit is energy-efficient, fully accessible, and built with materials that lower costs and reduce environmental impact.

Support Beyond Housing

Housing is just the start. Through our supportive programs, we help residents build credit, grow savings, and find gainful employment, paving the way for lasting financial health.

1510 Main Street

Our first project in Winnipeg offers 72 energy-efficient, accessible homes that prioritize affordability. With 30 units(24 one-bedrooms and 6 three-bedrooms) deeply affordable under CMHC guidelines, and the remaining 42 (6 one-bedrooms, 30 two-bedrooms, and 6 three-bedrooms) at market rates, this inclusive community is built to meet the needs of families at every stage.

At the heart of the building is a welcoming shared space where residents can access support services and community programs designs around their unique needs.

Stable, secure housing is the foundation for generational opportunity, and Inuka offers residents income-aligned rent, and personalized finance coaching to get ahead on their journey from renting to affordable homeownership.

1510 Main Street will be more than housing. We’re building a place to grow.

A community designed so we can all rise. Together.

Our Story

Inuka was born in Spring 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when community members gathered virtually during the lockdown to explore solutions to urgent challenges together.

One issue stood out: the need for stable, affordable housing.

What began as a savings circle became a groundbreaking housing initiative. With no prior housing development experience, we leaned into collaboration, community, shared values, and strategic partnerships.

In 2025, just four years later, Inuka broke ground on a development with 72 energy-efficient homes, with 40% of them deeply affordable, on Main Street in Winnipeg, and we hope to welcome our first residents in Summer 2026!
